Sir Thomas „Tommy“ Dewar nutzt innovative Marketingtechniken, seinen Charme und v.a. seine Redegewandtheit um Dewar‘s Blended Whisky Ende des 19. Jh. zu weltweiter Bekanntheit zu führen. Seine berühmt-berüchtigten Aussprüche – insbesondere zur Vereinbarkeit von (wirtschaftlichem) Erfolg und Lebensfreude – begründen den „Dewarismus“. Und Tommy verkörpert diese Philosophie: Er kehrt Schottland überhaupt erst als Handelsvertreter den Rücken, weil ihn die Aussicht abschreckt, Landwirt zu werden!
